What Can Happen in Two Weeks?

Time for Tea!
I have often pondered the passage of time. To me it is odd that the same 24 hours can sometimes seem to go by so quickly on one day, and yet so slowly on another. This past fourteen days has gone by so slowly. I thought it had been months since last writing...

Probably the main reason for the sluggish passage of time is that I have been feeling somewhat tired lately. A sore throat, stuffy head, and on and off fever have kept me somewhat uncomfortable, but not so sick as to have to stay home.

Another reason was the "long" weekend just last week. We worked for three days and then had a four day weekend to celebrate the Islamic New Year.  Although I didn't travel out of the country, I did manage a small excursion to Emily's place in Mahbulah, ate a Thanksgiving potluck dinner with the ASK Canadians, had a sleepover, and then enjoyed International Cake Decorating Day at Lindsay, Phil, Nory, and Jet's place. The children enjoyed decorating cupcakes with amazing colours and special sprinkles. I enjoyed tasting one, or two. Fortunately, I did get in two swims at the pool, went out for a nice dinner with friends, and tutored one of my favourite students. All in all a pretty busy time.

Time for Play!

This past week at school brought us quickly back to reality. It was only our THIRD five day week so far in the school year. Can you imagine? It is almost the end of October and we have had just 27 class days.

Last night was like a Friday night. Usually exhausted I thought I would get out of the rut of staying home and go to a comedy improvisation evening with a colleague...it was awesome. Laughter is the best medicine. Tonight is a Thanksgiving dinner put on by the Canadians in Kuwait group. And my gym membership runs out today...I might get there this afternoon.

Delightful Improv-one of the lighter moments!

They picked two ladies' purses from the audience.
I would have been mortified!
Next week promises to be a very busy one...report cards are due on Sunday, Picture Day is Monday, a fire drill and staff meeting are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday includes a medical screening for my class (eyes, ears, height and weight), and on Thursday we have invited the parents in for a Ready to Read Celebration. Thursday is also our first dress down day of the year. I am presently looking for my striped and polka dotted outfits (or at least thinking about looking!)

I really am loving teaching one Grade 1. It is interesting and challenging because everyday is a new one. The children are sociable, emotional, chatty, and cute. However, they are also sensitive, caring, smart, and highly motivated to learn to read, write, experiment, solve problems, and learn classical Arabic. I feel very fortunate to have found this work, even if it is far from home.

The staff members at the school are positive, supportive, and hard working. Sadly, this is the time of the year when some international teachers are making decisions about their futures. Shall we stay put for another year or move on to a new place. There is a sense of excitement when you hear someone is going to a International Job Fair. There are so many opportunities for teachers!

I forgot to mention our Trivia team- Dead Weight!
We did not win, but had a few good laughs.

The excitement from Canada has had its ripple effect in Kuwait. The Blue Jays are in the playoffs and the Liberals won a majority in the federal election. Who would have predicted those two events would transpire in the same week?

Does history repeat itself?

Boys in Blue! Two more GAMES!
It is times like this that I wonder about retirement, a time when I will be back at home in Canada, spending the rest of my time not working. I wonder if that will ever happen. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift...the present. And while this is happening, I am content, for now!

Until next time,

Bee Rich

PS And yes, I am becoming accustomed to cats...not a crazy cat lady, yet!

What's Happening?

It has been a long time...and yet not so long.  My last blog included a story about how my place of work raised money to stay in operation.

I cannot tell you where the time has gone or what I have been doing in the interim.  For me it has been all work and no play.

My job at the pool has come to an end.  Some people in a higher place than me decided that it was time for me to go. And do you want to know something?  It was time for me to go!

So here I am.  Not working.  Ugh.

What to do what to do what to do?

Although it appears that I have many options I have made a conscious effort to take some Bee time...

My goals include:

Things to Do:
  • heal and strengthen my body, mind and spirit
  • update my blog
  • be nice to myself
  • grieve the loss of my mom
  • contact friends and family
  • take more pictures
  • swim in the lake
  • paddle in the lake
  • clean my house
  • get my daughter's cottage ready for renters
  • garden
  • sort and purge stuff
  • read
  • pray
  • start looking for a new place to work
Things Not to Do:
  • lay in bed
  • feel sorry for myself
  • overeat
  • over drink
  • allow negative self talk to destroy my self confidence
In summary, the following picture showed up on my Facebook page and I am re-posting here are a reminder for the future- take from Facebook.com/ChangeYourThoughtsToday

All for now and until next time,

Missing a Day

My Amazing Man!

The last time I wrote, I declared it was Wednesday when it was actually Tuesday.  How could I miss a whole day?  Nevertheless, it was a busy Tuesday, and since then, it has been a busy week.  I taught a half day on Tuesday, a full day on Wednesday, two-thirds of a day today... and who knows what will happen tomorrow.
It has also been an extremely busy week for my husband and his brother.  With appointments in Ottawa on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly Friday, both of these men in my life have persevered through the days with positive attitudes.  They are my inspiration.
On Facebook today I read a post from a friend and I had to cut and paste it as my status.  It said...

If you have an amazing man in your life, who brings balance to your world, who isn't perfect but perfect for you, who would do anything for you, who makes you laugh and drives you crazy...who is your best friend and soul mate, who you want to grow old with, who you are thankful for everyday and is the one and only true love of your life. Brag about him a little and put this as your status. ♥

.... and so I did. And it got me thinking, how truly rich I really am.

Until next time,

Bee Rich

PS  Next time I will have to write about the most recent incident in my husband's wood shop and how my brother-in-law earned the title of "nurse."

Just for Today

This message popped up in my hotmail inbox yesterday and pretty well put things in perspective for me.  Just for today, I am going to slow down, contemplate its meaning, and appreciate every good thing about my life. More tomorrow,

Until then,

Bee Rich

To realize
The value of a sister/brother
Ask someone
Who doesn't have one.

To realize
The value of ten years:
Ask a newly
Divorced couple.

To realize
The value of four years:
Ask a graduate.

To realize
The value of one year:
Ask a student who
Has failed a final exam.

To realize
The value of nine months:
Ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.

To realize
The value of one month:
Ask a mother
Who has given birth to
A premature baby.

To realize
The value of one week:
Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize
The value of one minute:
Ask a person
Who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize
The value of one second:
Ask a person
Who has survived an accident.

Time waits for no one.

Treasure every moment you have.

You will treasure it even more when
You can share it with someone special.

To realize the value of a friend or family member:

LOSE ONE.

The origin of this letter is unknown,
But it brings good luck to everyone who passes it on.

Remember....
Hold on tight to the ones you love!
